In 2009 Simcoa Operations purchased two new pieces of noise monitoring equipment - a fixed weatherproof noise level meter, which is currently located on Simcoa’s charcoal plant and a state-of-the-art portable noise logger and complaint recorder.
The fixed meter continuously measures the noise output from the Simcoa charcoal plant and warns the plant operators when noise levels increase, which in turn places the community at risk from noise from the plant.
The portable recorder, when used in or near a residence, can monitor noise levels over several weeks and also allows a resident to make a CD quality recording of any offending noise. This information can be used in combination with data from a new weather station and the on-site noise meter to investigate community noise complaints. Ultimately this equipment should greatly assist Simcoa in improving noise management at its Kemerton plant and minimise the impact of noise on residents living close to the park.
